JOINT CREDIT MECHANISM (JCM) PROJECT
BACKGROUND
The purpose of JCM is to evaluate the GHG emission reductions or removals in a quantitative
manner, by applying measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) methodologies to achieve
emission reduction targets.
Objective of the JCM Project
The Objective of JCM Projects is to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHGs) emissions through use of
leading low-carbon low-emission technologies, products, systems, services and infrastructure.
Number of JCM Projects in Kenya
Kenya has three JCM Projects which include the Micro Hydropower Project at Mwea Rice
Scheme for hydropower generation to promote sustainable development for the local community,
Solar PV at Malindi Salt Factory for reducing CO2 emission by replacing diesel generator for
power generation and Solar PV at Makueni for additional power for the national grid.
